Preliminary results from antibody testing in New York state found a 13.9 percent infection rate, officials announced Thursday.
People who test positive are believed to have had COVID-19 in the past. Some patients with the new disease, caused by the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus, never show symptoms and have no idea they were infected.
Preliminary results from 3,000 tests carried out across 19 New York counties found 13.9 percent of those tested have antibodies against COVID-19. But that figure climbed to 21.2 percent in New York City and dropped to 3.6 percent in counties outside the city, Long Island, and Westchester and Rockland counties.
The percent positive on Long Island was 16.7 percent and 11.7 percent in Westchester and Rockland counties combined.
Forty three percent of those tested were in New York City, 14.4 percent were on Long Island, 9.8 percent were in Westchester and Rockland counties, and 32.8 percent of them were in the rest of the state.
People were tested at grocery stores and box stores. The sample was by definition people that were outside the home, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said.
If the infection rate is 13.9 percent, then it changes the theories of what the death rate is if you get infected, Cuomo told reporters in Albany.
Extrapolating the results would mean 2.7 million people in the state have been infected with the CCP virus, a novel coronavirus that emerged from mainland China last year. With about 15,500 current fatalities linked to COVID-19 in New York, the death rate, or mortality rate, would be 0.5 percent.
That extrapolation comes with two caveats: the results from antibody testing are preliminary and the number of deaths dont include those that died at home, Cuomo said.

Wonderful news, no?
Well, well, well.
I LOVE the way the anti-communist Epoch Times continues to call it the CCP Virus. I wonder how many know what CCP stands for.
By my quick reckoning, that implies a fatality rate of 0.5% in New York State at this frozen moment in time.
They didnt listen to the scientists.
Good news for NYC. But what about the rest of the state?
RE: Good news for NYC. But what about the rest of the state?
How many of these infected were asymptomatic?
All the studies are showing this trend.
like I said I’m from Staten island and out of all my family and friends and everyone they know it is probably a thousand people. Nobody has gotten sick. Many must have had it
The time to build herd immunity is now, while the weather is getting warm and people are spending more time outside. People are healthier in the warmer months and thus have more robust ability to build immunity. But we need to do it now. Not wait until fall when it will be too late.
But just in case, nobody touch my posts
I have an idea for suggested testing location for antibodies. First the usual disclaimers Hindsight is 20/20 and you dont know what you dont know.
In retrospect one of the best or worst things that was done was to close colleges and universities. If the virus was already in the student population we would not have known because chances are 99.99% of infected students would have been asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic. Due to relatively closed community the spread of the virus would have been high. Closing the universities sent these students home to possibly disseminate the virus.
I am curious as the number of people who remained in the university towns and cities who test positive for antibodies. Also the number of confirmed cases and mortality. This information could be valuable to guide where we can reopen or remained closed.
Doesn’t matter. Reality is the same everywhere. The CA study confirms the NY findings:
http://publichealth.lacounty.gov/phcommon/public/media/mediapubhpdetail.cfm?prid=2328
and for this we shut down the freakin country..shut it down over a virus that has been around this country for MONTHS, my guess Mid December..people from Wuhan were traveling to the US by the MILLIONS around that time, and no one was infected, COME ON..OPEN THIS COUNTRY BACK UP! We lived through it without knowing it was here, now we know its here so whats the difference
Only one in five? That surprises me. I thought it would be higher.
Then there must have been a LOT of asymtomatic carriers of the Wuhan virus walking around NYC. If so, the mortality rate is MUCH overstated, and the action taken by Sweden of isolating ONLY those at high risk (the elderly and those with compromised immune systems), and maintaining safe social distancing, apparently something that Swedes did ALREADY, was perhaps the model that should have been applied.
“Safer at Home” has all the markings of a major prank at best, and a diabolical scheme to break the “Trump economic miracle” at worst.
Build a wall around NYC.
“That extrapolation comes with two caveats: the results from antibody testing are preliminary and the number of deaths dont include those that died at home, Cuomo said.”
But the numbers of “dead from the China Virus” DO include those who while NEVER tested for the virus even remotely had contact with another who had the virus.
The scam continues and my guess is this will blow up in not too much longer a period of time.
Well that’s 25%.
